This little sphere looks perfect on the laser etched wood stand—my gift to you with the purchase of the sphere! The obsidian features banding in pale green, pink, and blue, set against the rich black of the volcanic glass. Rainbow obsidian forms these amazing color bands naturally--they are formed when gas bubbles remaining from lava flow align in layers created by flow lines. This piece would make a lovely gift for crystal and animal lovers, and a striking addition to any rock & mineral collection. (Note: There may be very minor natural flaws in the obsidian, in the form of tiny abrasions, on this sphere. In my opinion, it is not detrimental to the orb’s beauty.) Locality: Mexico Dimensions: contact me Weight: contact me FORMATION: Obsidian is naturally occurring volcanic glass, formed as an extrusive igneous rock. It is formed when volcanic lava cools rapidly with minimum crystal growth. Obsidian is hard and brittle, and forms conchoidal (glass-like) fractures. These fractures create extremely sharp edges, which made it useful for primitive tools and weapons, as well as for modern surgical scalpels. HEALING: Rainbow obsidian is a grounding stone, and is believed to help illuminate changes that need to be made. It is thought to help to alleviate unloving thoughts, and bring light and love. It is viewed as a shield against negativity, and protects the bearer.
