About Phenomenal Gems

I'm Angel, and Phenomenal Gems is my passion! My shop and rockhounding adventures wouldn’t exist without my wonderful husband Keith. We travel the country (and eventually, the world) to discover new minerals and learn more about our amazing planet. There is no rock I don't want to see, no fact of gemology or geology I won't discuss. When am I thinking about minerals? All the time! 

At one point in my life, like most people, I didn't know a thing about rocks. I couldn't tell you my birthstone if my life depended on it. Luckily, I had the opportunity to start working at a local rock shop--and it changed everything for me. Learning about gems and minerals became my passion, and I dreamt of sharing that passion with others.

Getting my gemology certification through the International School of Gemology was the next step in my journey. I learned about faceted gems, pearls, diamonds, appraising, and more. I also learned that I preferred to specialize in minerals, and that my favorite form is hand specimens. As my understanding grew, I looked for a way to share my passion with the world--Phenomenal Gems was born in March 2013. (I continue to hold a current RGA certification through IIJA, in addition to running Phenomenal Gems.)

Phenomenal Gems is my joy! I love discovering new crystals and minerals, and nothing makes me happier than helping people find specimens they can be proud of.

You don't need to be an expert, have fancy equipment, or a million dollars to find a specimen you love. My philosophy is that a truly unique piece, whether it's $1 or $1000, can capture your heart. It's my hope that you have a wonderful experience shopping with me, and that you come away with a special something to enhance your collection.

I live in beautiful Nederland, Colorado--there's an abundance of geology and fossils here to enjoy. My wonderful husband and I love rockhounding, and try to do it often. Working around rocks is a blessing, and every day I learn something new. Whether you're just browsing, or you find something you fall in love with, I hope you learn something and enjoy the journey!
