Herkimer Diamond Quartz *Birthday Pocket*, Diamond Mtn, NY, USA—SELF6

It is naturally raw and unpolished, and price factors in condition.* This glamorous little beauty is known as a black Herkimer diamond quartz, an unusual variety of quartz found in Herkimer County, New York. Black Herkimers are more rare than clear particularly in clusters of this size. This particular cluster was self-collected from Birthday Pocket, Diamond Mountain, Little Falls, NY, in August 2020! It features a large clear tip crystal with smaller crystals exhibiting double termination and twinning, with some abrasions and incomplete formations. The tip of the largest crystal is near perfect, but the body is split by multiple fractures. (There is a large fracture which runs the length of the crystal, and separates the clear section from the black inclusions.) Black inclusions in the cluster are a result of hydrocarbons and anthraxolite—they often have a lustrous appearance that is unique, and are heavily included throughout. The crystal has a large negative space section that was either a contact point or a blowout of an enhydro pocket, and can be felt as an empty spot in the cluster. There are lots of rainbows in these crystals! The rainbows likely formed as a result of the crystals’ intense and changing formation environment, which likely included tectonic activity resulting in interior fractures. It’s my privilege to have found these crystals personally and to offer them to you directly. This small specimen would make an excellent piece for meditation or gridding, and is a very unique piece for lovers of this iconic locality quartz! Locality: Birthday Pocket, Diamond Mountain, Little Falls, Herkimer County, New York, USA. Dimensions: 1.75” x 1.25” x 1.00” (44mm x 31mm x 26mm) Weight: 29 g (1.0 oz) FORMATION: Herkimer diamonds are named for the locality in which they were discovered (Herkimer county, NY, USA). The name "diamond" describes these quartz points' excellent clarity, and superficial resemblance to raw diamonds. Herkimers are known for their sharp faces, and they often feature twinning and double terminations. Black herkimers (color as a result of inclusions of anthraxolite and/or hydrocarbons) are very rare and found only in a few of the localities in Herkimer, including beautiful Diamond Mountain. Quartz is composed of silicon dioxide, and is one of the most abundant minerals on the planet. It is found in a multitude of colors, growth habits, and localities. Double terminated crystals have terminations growing in opposite directions. The hardness of quartz is 7, and it crystallizes in the hexagonal (trigonal) system. HEALING PROPERTIES: Herkimer diamond quartz is believed to have a very high vibration, and are associated with spiritual evolution. They carry the energy of attunement, and are believed to be excellent for transmitting and receiving spiritual energy. Quartz is believed to amplify intention, and is thought to be easily programmable for different purposes.
